DOC converter

DOC files are the deep archive of office work. Converting one to PDF freezes it exactly as a modern office engine renders it; that engine runs on our server, and uploaded files are deleted within about an hour.

What is DOC?

DOC is the binary Word format that ruled offices from Word 6 through Word 2003, before DOCX replaced it in 2007. It is a closed OLE compound file, fragile across versions and increasingly refused by modern tools and upload forms. Decades of contracts, theses and letters still live in .doc, which makes converting them out of it a routine archival chore.

Common questions about DOC

What is a DOC file?
DOC is the original binary Microsoft Word format that ran offices from Word 6 through Word 2003, before DOCX replaced it in 2007. It is a closed OLE compound file (a kind of mini-filesystem packed into one file) holding the text, formatting, and embedded images of a Word document. Decades of contracts, theses, and letters still live in .doc, which is why people keep needing to get them out of it.
Why won't my old DOC file open properly in modern apps?
The binary DOC format is fragile across versions and increasingly refused by modern tools and upload forms. Recent Word opens .doc with compatibility warnings, and some web portals and editors reject the extension outright or render it with shifted formatting. Converting it to PDF gives you a fixed-layout file that opens cleanly everywhere and is safe to send or archive.
How do I convert a DOC to PDF?
Drop your .doc into hushvert and choose PDF. The conversion freezes the document exactly as a modern office engine renders it, so the result looks the same on any device and is ready to print or share. This one runs in our server lane, because a browser cannot run a full Word layout engine: the file uploads to a clearly labeled, encrypted lane, the input is deleted immediately after conversion, and the PDF output is removed about an hour later.
Does converting my DOC upload it, or does it stay on my device?
DOC to PDF genuinely uploads. Unlike our image and data conversions that run in your browser, faithfully rendering a legacy Word layout needs a server-side office engine, so the file is sent over an encrypted connection to a clearly labeled lane. We delete the input immediately after conversion and remove the PDF output about an hour later. The dropzone tells you it is a server conversion before you start, so nothing is hidden.
Can hushvert convert a DOC into DOCX, or turn another file into DOC?
No. hushvert converts DOC out to PDF only. We do not convert DOC into DOCX, and we do not produce .doc files from any other format. PDF is the right target when you just need to read, share, or archive an old Word document; if you need an editable file, open the .doc in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice Writer and save it as DOCX there.
